One-Pot Meals Blow

There, I said it. Sorry, soccer moms. I refuse to believe it isn’t just easier to cook in two pots and combine the food at the end. Is that so fucking hard?

What does this have to do with running? Well, this one-pot recipe, Sausage and Broccoli Rabe Penne (with Trader Joe’s meatless sausage, of course), comes from Runner’s World, which describes it as “the perfect one-pot pasta.” As if there were such a thing.

First of all, who has a pot big enough to cook sausage, a package of penne, and broccoli rabe all at once? And if you do have such a gigantic magical pot, wouldn’t it actually be easier to just clean two pots at the end of the night than one enormous one? You’re going to get your arm wet trying to wash the inside of that hulking thing!

But I went for the one of my shitty Wolfgang Puck sauce pans and ended up with watered-down tomato sauce and undercooked pasta. And then there was no room for vegetables, which were actually spinach and mushrooms because I couldn’t find broccoli rabe and my broccoli had gone bad. So, suck it one-pot advocates. I won’t make this mistake again.

Speaking of cooking, Top Chef is on. And Wolfgang Puck is a judge. He’s taunting me! Wolfgang, you ruin everything I cook!

    I’ve heard good things about cooking pasta in tomato sauce, but dumping a quart of water into some tomatoes does not make tomato sauce, Runner’s World! It does sound like a delicious idea without the olives.
