When: Sunday, February 14, 2010, 9 a.m.
Where: Pentagon Row, Pentagon City, Arlington, VA (Metro accessible by the Pentagon and Pentagon City stops on the blue from Virginia only!and yellow lines. Weekend track work will close the blue and orange lines between DC and VA, but you can still take the yellow line from DC.)
Details: This is an all-new race for 2010. It’s an out-and-back course that starts on Joyce Street and is run almost entirely on Army Navy Drive.
It starts at the Pentagon Row shopping center on Joyce St.
And then head north on Joyce
before turning left on Army Navy. Army Navy is a huge, steep hill. The pictures are kind of dark (iPhone at dusk = sorry)
There’s some downhill on the other side
Here’s the turnaround–there are some rolling hills between the big uphill and here.
Of course a giant uphill at the beginning means a giant downhill at the end, but my overall impression is that this will be a challenging course.
Tips: As Coach George would say, start slow and finish fast! You can often get away with going out fast and holding on in a 5k, but charging up the enormous hill could kick your ass. You should be able to make up any time you lose going up by coming down it fast in both directions.
And of course, be sure to get to packet pick-up early, so you can choose between all three shirt designs.
